Syrah: The name of the grape was taken from the city of shirah in Iran, near where the process of the wine making possibily originated 7000 years ago. It is believed that the Syrah was bought into southern France by the crusader, Guy De’Sterimberg. He bécame a hermit and developed a vineyard on a steep in the Rhône valley, where he lived. The characteristics native to this variety are intensified by the clayey coil of the Capilla del Fraile estate.
Petit Verdot: It’s origins are unclear, it probably predates Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux. There are records of it in the 18th century but its characteristics suggests an origin in a much hotter climates than the Gironde.
